A disappointing box.
I’ve now been getting this box for a full year. I was so happy and excited with my first box (Spring 2017) but the last couple of boxes I’ve been less and less happy about the products.
A year later my luck has run out and without being a select member (something I had planned to be for this box but missed the emails for) I ended up with the ugliest options for each item. but thankfully there are a couple products I really love!
In the box itself there are only two items I like:
Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion
It smells really nice, almost a tropical vibe, but not strong at all. My face felt instantly hydrated and very soft.
Physique 57 Massage Roller
Great item that I’m so excited to have since I almost bought a foam roller add-on (thankfully I didn’t). Unfortunately I didn’t get my favourite colour (would have loved blue or red) but the purple is pretty nonetheless. It feels so nice on my muscles and is very easy to use. Considering the colour is the only issue, I’m happy with this product.
The other items are:
Dermelect Cosmeceuticals Makeover Concealing Ridge Filler
The third nail product in 5 boxes. This one fills ridges and adds vitamins to your nails. It’s a cool product and hopefully works well, but it’s nothing too exciting.
ISH Lip Statement Palette
A palette with 12 circular lip colours and a mini brush for them. The colours are red toned and the palette itself reminds me of being 10-years-old and the “lip stick” I was allowed to wear before I was actually allowed to wear makeup. (You know, those little gel sparkly ones in plastic containers?) Anyway, I’ll try it out and see how strong the colour actually is, but I’m not a big fan of brushing on lip colours.
Free People x Understated Leather Starry Eyed Travel Eye Mask
Again didn’t get a colour I like but it’s still pretty. I’m not big into eye masks but this one has a removable gel pack that you put in the fridge to cool. It helps to calm eyes and puffiness around your eyes. It’s a great idea and maybe I’ll try it when my eyes are bothering me but otherwise I’m not really into eye masks.
Rachel Pally Reversible Clutch
I was so excited for this one when I saw the spoiler and unfortunately I got the one colour and pattern that doesn’t match me AT ALL! It’s a $60 value and sadly I don’t know that I’ll ever use it. The worst part is, the other two options are gorgeous and I would have loved. But I guess that’s all part of the randomness of the box.
Anderson Lilley Sunset Collection Candle
I can’t use candles and am allergic to strong perfumes and scents so this one is useless to me. The scent is kind of pretty but very strong. It’s a $45 value – which is absurd for a candle – but I’ll be getting rid of this one.
Next is the choice items which I’m pretty happy with! I love how they’ve changed choice and now when you pick the item you want, you get to see both products with a picture and details about what it is and how it works. It definitely helps to make a better choice.
I chose the KORRES Guava Body Butter as my “Beauty” choice. I used it once and I AM IN LOVE! The smell is tropical, mild and really pretty. It goes on so smoothly and really, truly leaves your skin so soft for hours! I have never had a body butter quite like this before. Most of them last for a little while then my skin is dry again. But even the next day I can slide my hand along my arm and it’s silky smooth! Definitely my favourite item in the box!
For my “Jewellery” choice I went with the Maya Brenner Designs LOVE Bracelet (in gold). It’s very delicate and understated which I love and overall, super cute. The only problem is that the chain is very small and not too long and it’s really hard to do up the clasp on my own. I never like jewellery that I can’t put on myself/need help to get on – because then I don’t wear it as much.
I tried to restrain myself and not splurge too much on choice items this time around. I had a $15 credit so I ended up spending about an additional $50 on Add-Ons. But I’m very happy with my choices.
Luv AJ Cosmic Coin Flare Ring (gold)
I’ve worn it once and I’m obsessed. I needed a new gold ring that I could wear regularly (I have a couple go-to silver ones already). It’s the perfect size, it looks big but when it’s on it’s not too much. It’s full of sparkle and a unique, cool design! When I saw ‘cosmic’ in the name of it, I knew I had to have it. It was the more expensive item but I needed it and I’m so happy I got it! Plus it’s adjustable so I didn’t have to know my ring size and I can wear it on different fingers.
Fatboy Sea Salt Pomade
I’ve never used this brand before but I’ve always wanted sea salt products for my hair and at only $7 I decided to give it a try. We shall see …
dphUE Scalp Scrub
It’s an apple cider vinegar and pink Himalayan salt [essentially] exfoliator for your head. It’s supposed to help clean your scalp of dead skin cells and help with hair loss and hair related problems. That’s something I need so I splurged on it and am eager to try it. Unfortunately it smells really gross so I’ll have to see if I can handle using it. But fingers crossed it improves my hair and scalp.
Living Proof Full Thickening Cream
I’ve always wanted to try the Living Proof products. So far I love the product packaging. The bottle has a soft feel to it. I used it once and really like how my hair looked after styling but I can’t say for sure it looked thicker or was nice because of this product. But I am happy with it and the smell is decent.
Youngblood Cosmetics Mineral Primer
I don’t need another primer but this one is mineral based and for the most part pretty good for you. It was about 80% off or so and decided to get it last minute just because of the sale price. I’m having trouble finding a primer I really like so I figured why not give it a try for only $9.
That’s all for the Spring 2018 FabFitFun Box. At this point I may cancel my membership or go for one last box with the summer one (since that’s my favourite month of the year and usually has good items) but I think I’ll have to end my subscription soon. It’s getting to be too much money for me especially when I don’t use or like half the products in the box.
I will miss the Add-Ons though and the FFFTV – with workouts and now cooking programs. When I started the box I used FFFTV a lot, I wish I got into it more again to make the subscription more worth it.
I really believe for any Canadian wanting this box, the select/annual subscription is the way to go! You save instantly, they always have an offer for credit when you switch over, and with the exchange rate you save on not paying exchange four times. Plus now they give so many spoilers you may as well know what’s coming in the box and choose what you want. (All the reasons why I had wanted to go select for this box).

Until Next Time,
